What is Natural Fusion?
Natural Fusion is a melding of passions and a hair salon with a mission. Earl Pindar and Kelly Chapin created Natural Fusion Hair Studio to combine Earl's expertise in cosmetology and Kelly's interests in environmental protection. It was important to us to build a business with a strong foundation reflecting our core values – environmental stewardship and ethical performance. We pledge to:
- represent our products and services honestly
- offer healthier hair care alternatives that work
- do our part to help the environment
- provide a fair and safe working environment
- give back to the local communities and charities
What’s it like?
Natural Fusion Hair Studio is not your typical salon. We are located in a historic house in Downtown Frederick. Our decor is comfortable and friendly, in tune with the location. You won’t find a row of stations packed together, but rather a collection of 1920’s era vanities serving as cutting stations. A buffet doubles as the color bar and a cupboard holds the towels and shampoo. We have preserved the original wood floors and as much of the character of our old house as possible. The atmosphere of the salon is friendly, fun, positive and customer focused. We want you to feel like a welcomed friend into our home.
Earl Pindar - Master Stylist

Earl Pindar, master colorist and stylist, comes to Frederick from the Carmel/Pebble Beach area of California. Earl is a member of the Creative Artistic Team of Farouk Systems. In addition to his work in the studio, he can also be found on stage at regional hair shows or in regional beauty colleges teaching the instructors.
Earl has almost 20 years of experience working in cosmetology. He has a solid foundation in hair fundamentals from his Sasson and Paul Mitchell training. A master at listening and understanding your preferences, Earl will work with you to design a personalized hairstyle that you will love. If you wish to freshen your color look, or try a new color, Earl will formulate a customized set of colors for you. For your special occasions, Earl excels at formal styling and enjoys working with you to create the perfect look.
Susan Hiltner - Associate Stylist I
Susan Hiltner is a graduate of Middletown High School and started working on her friend’s hair for dances. She enjoyed the challenge and decided to study at The Temple a Paul Mitchell Partner School of Cosmetology in Frederick. While there, she traveled to New York for a make-up class with MAC. Susan joined Natural Fusion Hair Studio in 2008 and she has been an integral part in the positive growth of the salon.
Often, that friendly knowledgeable voice that you hear on the phone is Susan. When you come into the salon, Susan will make you feel welcome and really spend time with you in your consultation. If you are trying something new, she will suggest options and give you some insight on how the results will look on you.
Susan enjoys helping with weddings and often teams up with Earl for offsite events. Susan has also volunteered at local high schools to participate in their career days.
When she is not in the salon, she enjoys spending time with Mike, and her dog, Gus. She dances with a local troupe and occasionally travels for recitals.
Mary Lee - Associate Stylist I

Mary Lee joined Natural Fusion Hair Studio in 2010. She is a graduate of The Temple a Paul Mitchell Partner School of Cosmetology. She has completed classes for all types of cutting techniques, from men’s to women’s and from short to long. She has also taken classes offered by TIGI.
Mary can create a formal style for your special event and you may find her working on a bridal party at Natural Fusion Hair Studio or at an offsite location. She excels in keeping her cool as the energy works up around her.
Mary will spend time with you during your consultation to ask questions to ensure your satisfaction. If you are looking for highlights, you can count on Mary to get you moving through quickly.
Kelly Chapin - Co-owner

Kelly grew up in the Frederick area and graduated from Hood College. For the next six years, she ventured across the United States working in wildlife biology. After working in various habitats and with many plant and animal species, she completed a Masters in Marine Resource Management at Oregon State University. Fortuitous circumstances took her to Monterey, California where she worked and volunteered with various non-profit organizations who strive to protect the marine environment. She also worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a Spatial Projects Coordinator, primarily working on the digital mapping of Marine Protected Areas and their protection status. Ready for a change, but still very interested in protecting the environment, Kelly (along with Earl) decided to combine their expertise to open an environmentally-friendly hair salon in an effort to increase environmental awareness and do what we can to improve in an industry that is not known for sustainability. She hopes that Natural Fusion Hair Studio will contribute towards a re-thinking of harmful salon practices.
