Natural Fusion Hair Studio is proud to offer our clients ammonia-free color. We use CHI color, which is manufactured by Farouk Systems, a US-based company. Farouk Systems is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their ammonia-free color line. CHI color produces rich, vibrant colors without the harshness of ammonia. When ammonia is present in a color system, it produces ammonia gas, which is toxic and harmful to the lungs.

alt CHI color does not have ammonia and the chemicals that it uses do not become airborne.The ingredients in the color open the hair cuticle more gently and deposit the color. This allows the hair to remain more healthy and continue to look good. At Natural Fusion Hair Studio, we wanted to protect our stylists, as well as our clients.

Many people ask us what we do to be green. For us, it is much more than just having green products, it is a way of life. Here is a list of some of the things we do:

Established in an existing building and decorated with antique furniture
Our color is ammonia free, so no toxic gas to breathe
We offer discounted refills on many of our shampoos and conditioners
Provide discounts to clients who arrive via transit or bicycle
Purchase 100% wind power electricity
Replaced halogen lights with fluorescent lights, greatly reducing electricity draw
Upgraded our water heater to be the most efficient available
Stations have individual light switches for spot lighting
Solar lights and light timers for outdoor lighting needs
Utilize lots of natural light and ceiling fans
Have programmable thermostats
Installed insulation in a remodeled room and the attic
Weather stripping to reduce drafts (but it is an OLD house…)
Low flow washing machine
Installed a recirculating pump to reduce the time waiting for hot water
Auto shut off faucets and dual flush toilet in the bathroom
We use rain barrels in the summertime for landscaping/garden water
Have plants in the salon to help improve air quality
Use non-toxic cleaners and non-chlorine bleach as much as possible

The beauty industry calls this practice “diversion” and it is very harmful to legitimate businesses. Farouk Systems is aggressively addressing diversion and counterfeiting. Earl has joined the Creative Artistic Team for Farouk Systems!

Are you wondering what that means? Earl’s talent and dedication have been recognized by the leaders at Farouk and he was invited to join their show and education team. Less than fifty people are chosen serve on this international team, so this is quite an honor! In January 2011, Earl joined hair artists from around the world in Houston, Texas for an intensive training on the new 2011 Exposed Trends Collection. In addition to his work in the salon behind the chair, Earl can also be found at regional beauty shows demonstrating new products and advanced techniques to fellow hairstylists. For the education department, he travels to newly established CHI beauty schools to teach both instructors and students.
